उदैपुर - Udaipur, Venice of the East

We arrived in Udaipur by Jet Airways plane. The drive into the old city through crowded streets afforded us views of brightly colored shops, murals, and painted vehicles. We caught glimpses of a couple of camels and multitudes of holy cows. I saw a wild boar trace the side of the highway. Feral dogs roamed lazily. The city was unrecognizable to my memory of it from 30 years ago. That is until we first viewed Lake Pichola. The view of the Lake Palace is from our hotel - the Mewar Haveli.

Martin and Cindy,
Wow...what a beautiful view of Lake Pichola. Martin, it is just like the picture you showed me before you left on your trip. All of the pictures are just beautiful. I especially like the picture of you and Cindy by the tomb.
Well, safe travels and enjoy the warm weather. Thinking of you.

Take care,

Andrea

Martin and Cindy,

We are following your journey through India with you. We hope to have mom up and running this weekend so she can follow also. Wonderful pictures and commentary. The weather looks so much better in India than over here. You missed the ice & snow storm we had Tuesday.

Enjoying the wonderful pictures and the descriptions of your travels. I have limited my own travels to the Wisconsin Dells so this is very exciting for me. You have broadened my perspective. My vintage "Nagel's India Travel Guide" says that Udaipur is also known as the "City of Sunrise" and "The Pearl of Rajasthan" so you might want to float those phrases out there to impress the locals.
Travel Safe. We are thinking of you guys.
Love Chuck, Nancy and the girls.
ps. If there is a gift shop at the Maharanas Palace grab me a tshirt.

Heh you two:
Having trouble with my computer so haven't been able to send a note, but checking all the time. Did you know the Pack destroyed the Raiders. Probably couldn't sleep at night not knowing. Thanks for the journey. See ya, Bill

Thanks everybody for your wonderful comments. We have had some limited internet opportunities so stay tuned through the 'slow' times. Plenty of pictures to come. Also check out the Flickr site.
We get excited everytime someone comments so keep them coming!
Love,

Hi Cindy, Martin

Wow, that picture of Lake Pichola is gorgeous! I can see why they call it Venice of the East. It looks very warm. Is it humid there?

I really am enjoying the flicker on the top of your blog. Lots of really nice pictures.

Thanks Mike,
Not too humid. Weather's balmy. Having a little trouble with the local internet, otherwise there are lots more pictures to come at my Flickr site.
